The Community of Portuguese-speaking countries was created during the summit of Heads of state and government of Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal and St. Tome & Principe in 1996. Timor-Leste joined in 2002 upon its independence.
